To accomplish our vision of inspiring individuals, empowering families, and transforming communities, A Mind To Work CDC sponsors programs in the following areas:
Education
- Youth Development Activities
Back to School Conference & Rally
- In partnership with other community-minded organizations, this exciting two-day program is designed to motivate and generate enthusiasm in students about the new school year;
- Event features food trucks, gaming stations, and dynamic guest speakers who emphasize the importance of education and equip students with strategies and information to become leaders on their school campuses and beyond;
- Program provides school supplies to students and teachers to ensure educational success while reducing the financial burden on families and teachers.
Youth Enrichment Camp
- Two (2) week program for children completing kindergarten through 5th grade;
- Variety of camps are offered in the areas of fine arts, cooking/nutrition, foreign languages, and STEM;
- Registration details and exact dates are released in Spring of each year;
Harvest Fest
- Safe, fun-filled alternative to traditional Halloween activity designed for all family members within our targeted community;
- Event includes creative games, fun costumes, and treats;
English Language Learning Program (coming 2026)
Economic Development
Food Pantry
- In judgement free and uplifting environment, program provides bags of pre-packaged, non-perishable food items to families facing food insecurity challenges;
- Assistance is available on a first-come, first served basis, Monday โ Friday; individuals are eligible to receive assistance once every three (3) months;
- In partnership with other like-minded community organizations, fresh produce giveaways are available to underserved families; interested individuals can sign-up to be contacted for event dates;
Soup Kitchen
- Program provides meals directly to unhoused individuals and working poor families in southwest Houston every Thursday from 8:00am โ 10:00am;
- In partnership with other community organizations, program also provides warm, nutritious meals for underserved members of southwest Houston facing food insecurity challenges every first Saturday of the month;
Blessings In a Backpack
- In partnership with other community organizations, we help provide food for school-aged children who might otherwise go hungry over the weekend;
Community Engagement & Outreach
Teacher Appreciation
- In partnership with local community leaders, we sponsor appreciation events (pizza parties, dessert stations, etc.) for teachers at several District K elementary and middle schools to show our appreciation for their role in our community.
School Uniforms
- We supply school uniforms, supplies and backpacks for underserved students in the District K community.
